Santa Cruz hoping to fight Frampton Martinez II winner

WBC super bantamweight Champion of the World Leo Santa Cruz is targeting a clash with The Titanic Showdown winner.

The undefeated Mexican claimed he was open to fighting Scott Quigg or WBA and WBO belt holder Guillermo Rigondeaux, but is hoping to share the ring with that puncher that holds the IBF crown after Carl Frampton and Kiko Martinez II plays out.

Cyclone Promotions and indeed Frampton were hoping to challenge for the Golden Boys WBA strap in September, but Cruz stated his team were leaning towards a Quigg clash rather than a defence against the undefeated Belfast star.

The Quigg bout hasn’t materialised, however and Cruz is now targeting the winner of Frampton and old foe Martinez’s September 6 World title fight.

“I am just waiting on my next opponent. Hopefully we get whoever wins between Frampton and Martinez, or Quigg or Rigondeaux. Whoever the fans want,” Cruz told Boxingscene before suggesting it was too close to call.

“It is a good fight. The first fight was a close fight, but Frampton got it. I think this will be another good fight.”

Although he targeted Cruz this summer Frampton had previously stated an IBF title win against Martinez and then a massive unification clash with Cruz was the ideal option. And if Cruz is as keen as he makes out the best case scenario might still play out.
