Queen Rose Volante fires warning shots at Katie Taylor

Rose Volante [14(8)-0] has warned Katie Taylor that March 15th will be different.

The WBO champion believes that, unlike all of Taylor’s previous opponents, she is coming to fight.

The Brazilian claims that the WBA and IBF champion’s past foes have shown her too much respect and suggests they fought to survive rather than win – but is adamant that will be different as the pair look to unify lightweight titles on St Patrick’s weekend in Philadelphia.

The WBO belt holder has promised to put it on the WBA and IBF champion when they go to battle for three of the four available belts on the undercard of Tevin Farmer versus Jono Carroll at the Liacouras Center.

“I am going to attack her too,” said the undefeated champion.

“She always takes the initiative in her fights because the opponents are on the back foot. This time it will be different because I will be looking to fight,” she added before noting that Taylor’s greatest strength could also be a weakness.

“The thing is,” explained Volante, “is that when you attack all the time you are going to get hit.”

“It’s going to be a war for the entire fight.”

If the bout is an intense battle, Volante believes she will have the advantage. The 36-year-old who makes her third defence against the Bray fighter only has two more pro bouts than Taylor [12(5)-0] but believes she is more steeped in the hurt business than the former amateur stand-out.

Volante reasoned that “I think she spent a lot of time in amateur boxing, which is about dominating the fight more and landing more punches.”

“I have a style of trying to land the harder punches and this will be the difference,” she adds before stating her belief that it’s a pick’em battle and reminds people Taylor is not the only one with a belt going into the unification clash.

“My chances are the same as her’s, 50-50,” Volante declared matter-of-factly.

“She is champion and I am champion too. I know the importance of this fight and I will be prepared to win. It’s champion against champion.”

While she is happy to call it a 50-50 bout, Volante is confident of victory, stressing again she is a different level to all of the Matchroom fighters previous 12 opponents.

“Katie Taylor has never faced anyone like me. I’m going to put a belt on the table and I’ll bring three of them home.”
