Rohan Daté wants stadium fight with fellow Waterford welter Dylan Moran

Rohan Daté [6(5)-0-1] believes he will one day fight fellow Waterford welterweight Dylan Moran in a stadium.

One half of the Déise rivalry claims a meeting between the pair will that ‘special’ it will fill the RSC Stadium in their home county.

After defeating Innocent Anyanwu in impressive fashion last weekend the England-based fighter feels he is moving in the direction of titles.

While the 25-year-old has title options either side of the Irish Sea – and even further afield considering he has fought in the UAE – but admits he has one eye on the domestic scenario.

The likes of John Joyce, soon to be BUI Celtic title challenger Keane McMahon, Moran, Daté and even Jay Byrne have all be linked of late and the power puncher believes he is the best of the emerging bunch.

Daté, who weighed in just 2lbs above light welter, is open to staying in Ireland’s most populated division and. while he is open to bouts with all title-eligible fighters at the weight, there is one potential opponent stands out more than most.

The unbeaten banger is excited by a clash with 23-year-old Kilmacthomas prospect Moran [7(5)-0] and believes it would capture the attention of their home city.

Daté knows there is a ‘let it build’ element, but the fighter, who knocked out Jade Karam in front of a passionate home support at the WIT Arena earlier this year, has planted an early seed.

“All of the aforementioned names are on the list. I feel I beat all of them now, but timing is everything and boxing is a business so it’s important to fight when the hype has been built up,” Date told Irish-Boxing.com before bringing up Moran.

“I think Dylan Moran and I could be a special fight. It’s a massive fight for a Waterford bill and potential special event in the future.”

‘The Real Deal’ Moran gained Irish title eligibility at the weekend with a first round stoppage in a scheduled eight rounder in Mexico while Daté is set to move up in his next fight or two.

Both big punchers, Daté thinks the WIT Arena wouldn’t be big enough for the local derby.

“Neil Power is doing massive things for boxing and Waterford at the moment, who knows? Maybe a Déise belt could become a thing.”

“I’m sure there a lot of people who would come down to that event – certainly a lot more than the WIT Arena can hold in Waterford so maybe a summer time show at the RSC?”
