Rohan Daté to take on Egyptian champion in battle of the KO artists

It’s banger versus banger when Rohan Daté [4(3)-0] returns to the ring early next month.

Having blasted his way to victory in what looked like a potential banana skin last time out, big-hitting Irish welterweight Date takes on another encouragingly progressive early-career fight.

The Dubai based Waterford man – whose homecoming clash on the Ring Kings card on February 17th was a 26-second demolition of Jade Karam – will trade leather in the United Arab Emirates with a fighter with a higher knockout percentage than him.

Abdelghani Saber [9(9)-0-1] awaits on Friday April 6th and, while the calibre of his past opposition is low, one can’t look past the fact he has stopped nine out of the ten he has faced.

Like Daté, Saber is based in Dubai and comes to the ring with a decorated record, having claimed numerous Egyptian titles in the amateurs and competing internationally before claiming his nation’s title in the pros in 2016.

Saber drew with countryman Youssef Chergui back in 2015 but that result is sandwiched in between nine stoppage victories, the most recent of which came in Dubai in December just gone.

Watch Abdelghani Saber’s most recent fight blow:

Daté himself has taken the short route to victory from three of four fights and dropped the only fighter to take him the distance twice.

The manner in which he took out Cork’s South African Karam – a fighter that took the more experienced Alfredo Meli six rounds – confirmed his status as a genuine puncher and captured the attention of the wider boxing public.

Next for Daté is his first undefeated pro and a fellow puncher and while those outside of the Gulf can’t particularly vouch for the level of Abdelghani, he certainly can punch and on paper is a risk for the Waterford fighter.

It’s a relatively prompt return to the ring for the Déise man, who is aiming to become a full-time professional and break into the UK or US market in the neaar future.
