Next month will see the long-anticipated return to the ring of an Irish boxing talent.

Formerly viewed as one of the hottest prospects in Irish boxing, Dubliner Tony Bates has had his career sidetracked over the past few years.

The Clondalkin light welter, fighting out of Sydney, has not boxed since December 2014. Up until this point, ‘The Irish Psycho’ had racked up an impressive 10(8)-0-1 record Down Under.

Now, after over two and a half years, Bates will step back into the ring on Friday August 25th at the the Hurtsville Entertainment Centre in Sydney.

Bates had hoped to make his comeback at the end of last year, but saw this December fight date fall through.

Still only 29 years old, Bates is still trained by Billy Hussein – coach of world champions Vic Darchinyan and Billy Dib, as well as fellow Dub Tony Senior.

A comeback opponent for Bates will be announced shortly.
