Ring return CONFIRMED for Paddy Barnes

Paddy Barnes [5(1)-1(1)] will return to the ring before the end of the year.

The Belfast flyweight was defeated in an early-career world title fight when he was stopped in the fourth round by WBC champ Cristofer Rosales back in August.

The clash played out at Windsor Park on the Carl Frampton v Luke Jackson undercard and the Cliftonville fighter will return on the next Frampton card.

It has been confirmed tonight that Barnes will step back through the ropes on December 22nd on the Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton IBF featherweight world title undercard at the Manchester Arena.

Barnes is currently in training camp in Glasgow alongside Tyrone McKenna who is preparing for his own fight on November 30th versus Lewis Benson.

It will be the third consecutive card which Barnes and Frampton will share and will also be the first time Barnes and former amateur team-mate Mick Conlan will share a pro show, with the Falls Road feather having been confirmed for the bill over the weekend.

Announced alongside Barnes this evening was a spot on the card for Newtownabbey light heavyweight Steven Ward [9(3)-0]. The BUI Celtic champion moved up to ten rounds earlier this month with a DQ win over rugged Mexican Rolando Paredes.

The card in Manchester in just under nine weeks time had also had spots announced for Nicola Adams, Nathan Gorman, Mark Heffron, and a clash between JJ Metcalf and Liam Williams. This evening it has also been confirmed that English prospect Sam Maxwell, Alex Dickinson, Jack Massey, and debutant Tommy Fury will all also feature.
