Rematch keen Berki claims lack of experience and not Cummings beat him

Ferenc Berki is confident he is a better fighter than Conrad Cummings and claims he will prove it if the pair rematch.

The Coal Island fighter and the Hungarian fought for the vacant WBO European ranking title at the Titanic Centre last December with Cummings emerging victorious to reclaim a title he had lost the Summer before to Luke Keeler.

A late replacement for Brian Rose, Berki played his part in an entertaining fight, but ultimately lost  wide on the scorecards (99-90, 98-91, 95-94) and was dropped by a left hook in the tenth and final round.

The 23 old has been calling for a rematch via social media this week and the response from Cummings, whose last bout was another reverse to Luke Keeler, has been positive.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com Berki claims a lack of experience and not any superior Cummings talent was his undoing and he wants to set the record straight as a result.

“I called for the rematch because when we had our fight I wasn’t experienced at all. Conrad was my second 10 round fight. Since then I had two fights and one of them over 12 rounds,” he said before reflecting on their first meeting.

” My thought are it was a great fight. In my opinion the fight was much closer than the scorecards showed. I went down in the 10th because I was a little bit tired and not because of Conrad.”

The confident Magyar is adamant if the pair were to trade leather the result would now be different.

“If we fight again it would be a different outcome. Conrad is not better than me! He only had more experience.

“Conrad a strong fighter, but technically he is a one sided fighter in my opinion. If your honest, till end of the 6th round I was ahead. I think I’ll beat him on the rematch. We are going in to the fight with different fight plan.”

‘Dynamite’ has responded positively to suggestions of a return and his former foe could prove ideal comeback opposition. Not only has the Tyrone fighter proved he can defeat him, but with all this talk Berki has raised the profile of the fight and it might help the middleweight take a comeback short cut.
