Fighters withdrawn and opponent announced for upcoming Red Corner Promotions card

There has been a number of announcements today regarding the upcoming Red Corner Promotions show in Dublin.

The fledgling outfit run their fourth show at the National Stadium on Saturday October 7th – ‘Champions Elect’ – and today has seen confirmation of the withdrawal of two fighters as well as confirmation of an opponent for another.

First up, there have been two fighters withdrawn from the bill. Assassin Promotions duo Jake Best [4(0)-2(0)] and Paddy McDonagh [11(0)-2(0)] have both been forced off the card.

Poole light middleweight Best lost on Saturday night, being outpointed by Derry-born journeyman Paul Cummings in Bournemouth and has been slapped with a suspension from the board which rules him out of the card next month.

Irish light heavyweight champion McDonagh fractured his hand in camp and has also been ruled out of his eight-rounder with Nigerian Sunday Ajuwa

McDonagh said that “I’m very disappointed to have missed out on this great opportunity. I wanted to fight on, but I have been advised by the experts not to fight. I will continue to keep fit over the next weeks and wait for my hand to fully recover, and you will see me back in the ring again.”

Assassin boss Kaz Evans added that ‘we are very disappointed that our two boxers will miss this great chance to be part of this fantastic show.”

“Jake was unlucky down in Bournemouth and we have to let his cut recover, but undoubtedly, we want to see him back in the ring sooner rather than later.”

“Paddy had a unfortunate stint of injuries a few years ago, but physically seems back to his best and we hope this is just a blip, and Paddy has ensured us that despite the injury, he will keep fit.’

In better news, an opponent for the return of Allan Phelan [8(5)-3(1)-1] has been announced.

Red Corner have confirmed that the Kildare featherweight will face Poland’s Krzysztof Rogowski [10(5)-21(11)].

As an amateur the Pole holds a win over Carl Frampton and claimed a bronze medal at the 2006 EU Champions. The 36 year old has fulfilled the away fighter role as a pro, and has been stopped in the third and the second respectively by James Tennyson and Phelan’s fellow lilywhite Eric Donovan.

For Newbridge fighter Phelan, he is looking to rebound from his shock loss to English journeyman Jamie Quinn in June on the last Red Corner Promotions card.

Red Corner commented that “with the bit between his teeth and a point to prove we’re expecting an explosive Allan Phelan.”

Also on the card on October 7th will be debutants Karl Kelly and Craig McCarthy, Victor Rabei, a fight between super middleweights Vladimir Belujsky and Manny Bique, and BUI Celtic title fights for Craig O’Brien, Noel Murphy, and Chris Blaney.
