Ray Moylette is ‘pissed off’ with people commenting on his weight

Ray Moylette [11(4)-1(0)] is ‘pissed off’ with people commenting on his weight and has rubbished suggestions making lightweight was a factor in his first career defeat.

Talk has been widespread that a struggle to make the 135lbs lightweight limit cost him his WBC International Silver title fight with Christian Uruzquieta in Mayo last Friday night.

However, ‘Sugar Ray’ refutes any weight drained talk, claiming he made weight easier for his homecoming TG4 broadcast fight than any of his last five encounters.

So common have questions regarding the Mayo favourite’s potential struggle on the scales been that the 28-year-old has become somewhat upset.

“I’ve heard it 100 times from people I’ve never met over the weekend that the weight effected me,” Moylette told Irish-Boxing,com. 

“It pisses me off that everyone is an expert on my body. I would be the first to say it if the weight affected me as I would also have an excuse for losing.”

“However, this isn’t true and I made the weight easier than anticipated.”

The weight questions may have arisen after Moylette had to do two check weigh-ins in the build up to the fight, for which he came just inside the limit both times, and thus may have been forced to do the weight in a manner he has never done before.

However, the Assassin Promotions star is adamant he was comfortable throughout camp, felt strong during fight week, and most importantly refueled to a point were he felt strong going into what turned out to be a highly entertaining clash.

“I was strong and in great form all week. I had a tough hour the morning of the weigh in when I jumped in the bath for 20 mins. That was it. I made a full recovery and I enjoyed the build up.”

“I made weight for this fight easier than I made for my last five fights. I think everyone has an opinion on it because it makes them look like they know what they are talking about.”

“I want it to go on record that I rubbish any myth that I struggled to make weight.”
