Ray Moylette makes passionate TV appeal
Ray Moylette has made a passionate TV appeal, urging TG4 to work him in as he bids to bring boxing back to the national airwaves.
The former European Senior and World Youth gold medallist returns to Mayo on Friday December 7th and could earn himself a high world ranking if he beats Mexican Christian Uruzquieta and wins the WBC International rankings belt at the 2,000-seater Royal Theater in Castlebar.
Irish-Boxing.com believes TG4 have expressed an interest in airing the Assassin Promotions fight night that also includes bouts for Spike O’Sullivan and Luis Garcia and a host of prospects, and that talks regarding broadcasting the Western fight night are at an advanced stage.
The Irish language station received massive good will when they aired Last Man Standing back in March, a production which is said to have pulled in more viewers than the Matchroom Sky Sports show shown on the same night.
They also used Moylette for co-comms and post-fight interviews on the night and expressed an interest in working with the Mayo man further down the line.
However, TV has yet to be officially confirmed leaving Moylette to call for TG4 to bring their cameras to Castlebar on December 7th.
The well-traveled Islandeady man believes its an occasion, an event, and a fight worthy of TV and urged the station to get on board as he tried to bring big time boxing back to the small screen.
“I’m hoping this fight night will be shown on live TV,” Moylette told Irish-Boxing.com.
“This is going to be a great night for sport in Ireland and with boxing down the ranks at the minute this is our chance to once again be at the top of the food chain.”
“This will be a success story that needs to shown across the country. I heard the viewing figures for Last Man Standing earlier this year were out of this world. It caught the public’s imagination and everyone loved watching big time boxing again.”
“TG4 did a great job with the coverage and really made the whole show a great experience. I urge TG4 to follow up on the success and let’s work together to ensure the future of big time boxing in Ireland.”
Moylette has been somewhat nomadic during his pro existence but, while he looks likely to be a regular Stateside, Mayo could plau host to one or more Moylette fights a year.
The local favourite sees the Castlebar show as a chance to give back to those who supported him but, if things play out right and TV do get on board, Moylette believes he could bring the kind of days not seen since Bernard Dunne.
“Being honest this will be a massive platform for me to excel and really get my profile out there. It’s hard to imagine being a superstar but the reception I have been getting since the announcement of this show has been unbelievable.”
“So ,if I box to the best of my ability and we get the exposure through TV anything is possible. The main objective is to take the WBC strap to my home house in Islandeady and have a cup of tea with my family with no injuries – and of course look good doing it.”
“After that everything is a bonus.”
