Quigg: bring on Frampton

31 December 2010 – Jonny Stapleton

Carl Frampton’s nemesis Scott Quigg believes the only way to settle the dispute as to who is the hottest super bantamweight prospect in Europe is by trading real and not verbal blows.

Debate has raged in recent months as to which of the stars in the making will eventually shine brightest and Frampton has claimed he would be confident of emerging victorious if the pair clashed tomorrow.

But the much hyped 22 year old English pro is eager to do his talking in the ring and wants settle the issue in his favour in a British title fight with the Belfast star in 2011.

The Ricky Hatton promoted Quigg will challenge for the domestic strap early in the year and revealed if he emerges victorious he will give Barry McGuigans protg the chance to unbuckle the belt from his waist.

And despite the fact Frampton has outshone him by stopping common opponents Gavin Reid and Yuriy Voronin in quicker and more emphatic fashion, he is confident of defeating Irish boxings prospect of the year.

I am very aware of Carls progress. I know he is saying he would be confident of beating me, but he got to be confident hes a boxer. In a boxers eyes no one can beat you. However if I fought him tomorrow I would be confident I would win, Quigg told Mirror Sport.

He did take two common opponents out quicker than me, but that means nothing. When I was told to take them out I did. People can debate as to who they think is the best prospect, but talk means nothing. At the end of the day what matters is what we do in the ring.

Sooner or later we are going to meet and that is when everybody really finds out who is the best. At the minute I am next in line for the British title so that is were my immediate focus is. Once I have got that belt then I would be more than happy to fight in a big fight against Carl. That would draw a lot of attention and one the fans would love. I plan to win British title and European belts in 2011 and prove I am the best domestically.
