Promoter to fight on Dublin show

Jay Byrne [7(2)-5(1)] will fight for the 13th time as a pro on the same night he makes his promotional debut.

‘The Negotiator’ and his outfit JB Promotions along with Assassin Promotions will put on an interesting fight card at the National Stadium on July 7th.

Among an intriguing list of fights will be the 31-year-old’s attempt to return to winning ways post his light middleweight BUI Celtic title loss to Paul Kean last month.

The BUI Celtic welterweight champ told Irish-bBxing.com that he was considering retirement after his most recent defeat stating that “my plan is not concrete at the minute, I have a BBBofC title fight scheduled in September at light middle and I may just go with that or I may walk away. Part of me is saying walk away and part of me is saying take a four rounder on my own bill and then go into that title fight.”

However, with a BBBofC Celtic light middleweight title fight against Marc Kerr lined up for September, the former footballer will fight on and will warm up for a fourth career title fight with a fight on his own show.

The opponent has yet to be officially announced, but Byrne has revealed it will be a competitor with a winning record that will be coming to win. It’s expected the promoter, manager and fighter will compete early in the show before a quick change to play promoter. 

The Loughlinstown fighter said that “I’m looking forward to the test and again getting to box in front of my home crowd on what looks like being a really good night.”

Byrne’s fight will be one of many on a stacked card which includes an Irish title fight between champion Paddy McDonagh and Ian Bailey, an intriguing BUI Celtic title fight between Victor Rabei and Karl Kelly, Jordan Latimer v Eddie Treacy, the return of Lynn Harvey, fights for Irish light middleweight champ Craig O’Brien, Martin Quinn, Dylan Moran, Dylan McDonagh, Craig McCarthy, Cillian Reardon, Sean McGlinchey, Liam Gaynor and Vladimir Belujsky as well as debuts for Wayne Kenny, Eoin McGrath, and Martin Wall.
