Limerick District League

Geraldines-1

Pike Rovers-2

Title hopefuls Pike Rovers got their title challenge off to a winning start with victory over Geraldines on Wednesday night.

The promoted side put up a good fight and showed enough to suggest they may have enough to remain in the top flight this season, but the FAI Junior Cup finalists proved too good and banked three points at the first attempt this term.

Pike started the brighter and found themselves ahead when Steven McGann found the net.

The Irish amateur international cap collected a Conor Kavanagh through pass before breaking the deadlock with an emphatic finish.

The visitors were two to the good before the break this time Colin Daly with the finish.

The front man who netted 14 goals last season got off the mark this term as he tapped home former League of Ireland player Darragh Rainsford cross.

Geraldine’s responded well in the second half and reduced the arrears when Ian O’Donaghue pounced on a rebound to tap home.

However, Pike held firm and ensured a bright start to the season.
