Pete Taylor to coach Irish pro fighter

Bray amateur coach Pete Taylor is to begin coaching fighters in the paid ranks.

The Leeds-born cornerman has joined the team of Dublin heavyweight Sean Turner turner taylor[10(7)-0], linking up with Kilnamanagh BC trainer Stephen Kavanagh.

‘Big Sexy’ had been doing some training in Bray with Taylor over the past few months, focusing on the technical side of his game, and Turner today confirmed that he will be joining his team officially.

Taylor is best known for his role in his daughter Katie’s era of domination over the women’s lightweight amateur scene.

In this time, Katie would win Olympic gold, World gold x5, European gold x6, European Games gold, and EU gold x5.

Taylor would cease training his daughter toward the end of 2015.

Turner recently hit the 10-0 landmark with a second round win in Belfast over Igor Mihaljevic, a victory which granted him Irish title eligibility.

Following this win, the Boxing Union of Ireland sanctioned a heavyweight title fight between Turner and his old amateur rival, long-time friend, and MTK stablemate Con Sheehan. This fight has yet to be officially confirmed, however all parties involved are keen for it to take place.
