Paddy McDonagh secures BBBoC Celtic title fight in Wales

Paddy McDonagh [11(0)-2(0)] will return from over a year and a half out with a major title fight.

The Mullingar light heavyweight has not fought since reclaiming his Irish title with a win over Stevie Collins Jr back in June 2017 but will jump straight back in in a BBBoC Celtic title fight.

McDonagh will look to become the champion of Ireland, Scotland, and Wales on Saturday March 9th when he takes on Welshman Nathan Thorley [12(6)-0] for the vacant belt at the Merthyr Leisure Centre in Merthyr Tydfil.

The fight features on a packed Sanigar show that will be shown live on Welsh-language channel S4C.

Thorley is reigning Welsh champion having stopped Jermaine Asare in two rounds for the belt back in December 2012. Aside from that, the Cardiff puncher has fought solely journeymen.

A strong amateur, Thorley claimed bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

It’s straight back into the deep end for southpaw McDonagh who has been unable to build on his Irish title win over Collins due to a series of injuries and he will be looking to become Ireland’s sixth ever Celtic champ after Carl Frampton, James Tennyson, Paddy Gallagher, Tyrone McCullagh, and Jay Byrne.

Also featuring, Morgan Jones and Kody Davies do battle for the Welsh super middleweight title, Gavin Gwynne and Darren Traynor fight for the Scottish lightweight title, while there are also appearances for Kristian Touze, Jake Tinklin, Sion Yaxley, Robbie Vernon, and Jordan Thomas.

Irish-Boxing.com understands that some of McDonagh’s Assassin Boxing stablemates may also feature on the bill in undercard bouts.
