Compact TV schedule announced for Windsor Park fight card

Paddy Barnes will start televised proceedings on Saturday August 18th when he challenges WBC World flyweight champion Cristofer Rosales at Windsor Park.

Televised coverage of the big night of boxing will begin straight after the huge Premier League London derby between Chelsea and Arsenal live on BT Sport 1. Coverage of the big fight night will begin at 7:45pm.

“This is a massive bonus for Paddy fighting straight after the Arsenal-Chelsea match, it means there will be an even bigger audience tuning in to watch him for his big world title fight.” said event promotor Frank Warren; who also had a message for the fans heading to Windsor Park this Saturday.

“Get yourself in the stadium nice and early, grab a drink and enjoy an excellent night of world class boxing. Let’s hope it will stay nice and dry for everyone!”.

Going by the press release from Frank Warren, it would seem as though there are only three fights definitively set for TV – Rosales v Barnes, Tyson Fury’s clash with Francesco Pianeta, and headliner Carl Frampton.

With Barnes due to box around 8:00pm and Frampton scheduled to walk to the ring at 9:45pm for his clash with Luke Jackson, it looks to be a relatively compact TV broadcast – albeit one which is set to run until midnight.

Former amateur stars Steven Donnelly and Sean McComb are due to debut on the bill and may one may feature in between the three main bouts – or perhaps Belfast knockout artist Lewis Crocker who is still awaiting a live TV debut.

The eight-round BUI Celtic light heavyweight title fight between Steve Ward Jr and Steve Collins, the pick of the undercard, does not seem to fit into the broadcast plan.

Unlike previous Belfast BT Sport shows, there will be no BoxNation lead-in hour – indeed, disappointingly, the card will not be broadcast on the specialist boxing channel.
