“Over to you” – American promoter calls for Dylan Moran to impress

Joe DeGuardia says he will provide Dylan Moran with the kind of opportunities he needs to progress toward stardom, but warns it’s up to the Waterford man to take the big chances provided.

The welterweight prospect has signed a three year deal with American promoters Star Boxing and there has been considerable excitement about the link up with Irish fight fans hoping it paves a path to stardom for the popular 24-year-old.

Indeed, Moran looked set to be handed the chance to trade leather on the undercard of the WBA light heavyweight world title fight between Smith Jr and Dmitry Bivol at Turning Stone Resort and Casino only to be pulled off the card due to lack of space.

However, he is expected to fight on a DAZN and Sky Sports broadcast show later in the Spring, which should give Deise man a real opportunity to impress a massive audience- and it seems DeGuardia expects him to do just that.

When asked what type of fight Moran will be handed for his American debut the promoter of WBO World middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade told Irish-boxing.com, “the kind that he needs to progress.”

“We will present opportunities and when the bell rings, it’s up to him to have done the proper preparation.”

DeGuardia has done his Moran homework and has plans for ‘The Real Deal’, but those plans could be shaped differently depending on how his early performances go.

“I’d like to see him in the fight we have planned for him in the US and go from there. I can tell a lot when I see him in person. But the short answer is – we have signed him because we think he has potential,” he continued before stressing why he signed the Irish prospect.

“The recommendation from Kaz [Evans] was strong and then when we looked into him we saw many things that are marketable and we think he can draw on both sides of the ‘pond’ as they call it. Not to mention he is pretty good with his hands and feet.”

If things go to plan Moran may not be the only Irish or Assassin Promotions-managed fighter to secure a Star Boxing contract.

DeGuardia told Irish-boxing.com that he has his eyes on other Irish talent and explained the Irish card is a strong marketing tool at present.

“Yes, but as here, we are looking for a variety of specific characteristics and credentials,” he responded when asked if they were looking to sign any other Irish talent before explain the benefits promoters see in Irish fighters at present.

“We see a lot of value in the Irish fighters. Aside from their long history of tough fighters, the Irish fans are great and truly support their boxers, both Ireland and here in the US.”
