Opponent Scout Report: September 9th-10th

Top Pro Gif Ad
The Irish are in action in far-flung locations this weekend against good opposition.

Friday September 9th
Shaw Conference Centre, Edmonton, Canada
Cam O’Connell [11(7)-0-1] – Lightweight
Irish Cam faces Hungarian Norbert Kalucza [11(6)-1(0)] over eight rounds.
– Record: A 2008 Olympian at flyweight, losing his opening fight to McWilliams Arroyo. Built his record in Hungarian gyms before losing to the underated Dai Davies last time out.
– Style: Quick, relies on reflexes, but can be outworked and has a bit of a leaky defence
– Video: A loss in a 2012 Olympic qualifier
– Verdict: A testing and tricky opponent for O’Connell, who should have a significant size advantage on the night.
A good opponent.

Saturday September 10th
Mansfield Tavern, Queensland, Australia
Dennis Hogan [23(7)-1(0)-1] – Light Middleweight
Hurricane Hogan takes on the Cameroon-born Aussie Samuel Colomban [24(11)-8(1)] for the WBO Oriental title.
– Record: Recently won the Victoria State title and has challenged for Commonwealth and Australian (twice) belts at welterweight. Only stoppage came at the gloves of Jeff Horn.
– Style: Unorthodox, rangey, and tough. Will try make it a tear-up and hard to look good against.
– Video: Colomban’s recent majority-decision win over Benny Capps for the Victoria State title.
– Verdict: A very tough opponent for Hogan’s Australian homecoming, definitely not a gimme.
A good opponent.
