Top Pro Gif Ad
It’s a relatively quiet weekend for Irish fighters, but there is still action in Britain, Canada, and Australia, ahead of the crazy November 5th double fight date.

As always, we take a look at the men who will be in the opposite corner.

Friday October 28th
Deerfoot Inn & Casino Calgary, Canada
Logan McGuinness [23(10)-0-1] – Welterweight
Cotton faces Mexican Noel Mejia Rincon [18(10)-9(6)-1] over eight rounds.
– Record: Very padded record. None of his victories have come against opponents with winning records.
– Style: Throws punches, but is very wide with his shots. Stands quite square on.
– Video: A first round knockout loss to Batyr Jukembayev.
– Verdict: Acceptable due to McGuinness’s long [18 month] absence from the ring and his step up to welter, but poor otherwise.
An okay opponent.

Club Regent Casino & Event Centre, Winnipeg
Cam O’Connell [12(8)-0-1] – Lightweight
Irish Cam takes on Mexican Abraham Gomez [25(12)-12(4)-1] over eight rounds.
– Record: A regular on the Canadian scene, has been in a few trinket fights including a WBC Youth title win over Ricardo Mijares
– Style: Patient, good judge of distance, looks for the big shot, but generally throws in singles.
– Video: An eight-round points loss to Tyson Cave
– Verdict: Another strong, solid opponent for O’Connell, his third of the year.
A good opponent

Saturday October 29th
Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh
Jono Carroll [11(1)-0] – Super Featherweight
King Kong faces a to-be-confirmed opponent on the MGM Scotland show

Tolworth Recreation Centre, London
Peter McDonagh [26(3)-28(2)-1] – Welterweight
The Cinderella man boxes to-be-confirmed opponent on a Steve Wraith Promotions card

Guild Hall, Plymouth,
Tom Duff [3(0)-0] – Middleweight
The Guernsey-Irishman takes on Christian Hoskin Gomez [4(1)-17(1)-3] over eight rounds.
– Record: Stopped in the first last time out by Felix Cash, but has gone the distance with the likes of Elliot Matthews. Held Dubliner Ciaran Mullen to a draw last years.
– Style: Strong and durable, likes to get on the inside and get busy to the body.
– Video: A points loss to Chad Sugden
– Verdict: A step up in rounds and a solid challenge for 37 year old Duff who has only recently returned from illness and injury.
A good opponent

Sunday 30th October
Club Punchbowl, Sydney
Gearoid Clancy [5(0)-4(1)] – Lightweight
The Oughterard puncher is in against Ray Thompson [1(0)-7(3)] over six rounds
– Record: Stopped in the first by Dubliner Jake Hanney and gave two-time Clancy opponent Brendan Saunders a tough four-round fight.
– Style: Awkward and throws wild wide punches.
– Video: A second round stoppage loss to Dylan Emery.
– Verdict: A nice comeback fight for Clancy who has suffered two straight defeats, but he will need to be on his toes.
A good opponent
