Opponent confirmed for Mick Conlan’s New York return on Lomachenko-Rigondeaux undercard

An opponent has been confirmed for Mick Conlan‘s return to the Big Apple.

The Belfast featherweight boxes in The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York for the second time in his short pro career on Saturday December 9th.

Conlan [4(4)-0] debuted in the venue, headlining on his debut on St Patrick’s Day, and makes his return on the Vasyl Lomachenko v Guillermo Rigondeaux undercard.

Back in March Conlan stopped Tim Ibarra in the third round of a debut which was unprecedented in scale. Since then he has registered further stoppages in Chicago, Brisbane, and Tucson.

The 25 year old fights for the fifth time in nine months on the bill, rounding off a busy 2017 for the Falls Road fighter, and an opponent has been named.

Conlan will face Argentine Luis Fernando Molina [7(2)-3(0)-1] in Manhattan in two months time. A pro almost four years, the Buenos Aires boxer has never been stopped and comes into the bout on a two-fight winning streak.

29 year old ‘El Titi’ will face off against Conlan over six rounds on the card headlined by two double Olympic gold medalists.

The level of opposition looks to be in and around the same as Conlan’s first four pro opponents, however looks to be a somewhat more durable proposition for the Irishman.

Conlan is nearing the end of his time in six rounders, and looks set to step up to bigger fights in the new year.

Also featuring on the bill will be Christopher Diaz, Mikaela Mayer, Jose Gonzalez, Bryant Jennings, and Fazliddin Gaibnazarov – as well as Conlan’s potential pro rival Shakur Stevenson [3(1)-0]. The Newark 20 year old faces Oscar Mendoza over six rounds.
