Operation Ulster Hall for ‘The Operator’ – O’Neill secures second fight date

Owen O’Neill’s exciting debut must have caught the eye.

The Newington welterweight caused quite a stir when he punched for pay for the first time on Celtic Clash 8.Ā

The atmosphere generated before during and indeed just after his fight at the Devenish late last month was nothing short of sensational.

The new to the game pro brought over 200 people to see his professional debut and the crowd, which drew heavily from the support of Cliftonville FC, created a raucous occasion when Oā€™Neill took to the ring.

It now seems MTK want some of that atmosphere and noise for their next Belfast show and have recruited Boxing Ireland’s O’Neill to appear at the Ulster Hall on Friday June 21st.

On the day it was confirmed Gary Cully’s potential break-out fight with French manĀ Renald Garrido was unfortunately off,Ā  MTK announced the Boxing Ireland fighter would be appearing on a show topped by a Belfast Dublin derby between Tyrone McKenna and Darragh Foley.

It’s a massive boost for the Gerard McManus-trained fighter. Not only does heĀ  get to fight again less than a month after his debut, but he has been afforded the chance to trade leather at the Ulster Hall as a professional – andĀ  he could quite possibly appear on ESPN+.

It might be a short lead in time for ‘The Operator’, but speaking after his debut win he revealed he wouldn’t be long about returning to the gym.

ā€œIā€™m going to take a week off,ā€ Oā€™Neill outlined.

ā€œIā€™ve been training since the first of January, twice a day every day. Itā€™ll be a week off and then straight back into it,” he told Irish-boxing.com after his debut win overĀ tough Latvian Kristaps Zulgis.
