Odds slashed on Mick Conlan to become a World Champion

Around two years ago, in the aftermath of his World Amateur Championships gold medal, bookies began taking odds on Mick Conlan to become a professional world champion.

The Belfast boxer still had the Rio Olympics ahead of him, but talk of a pro move was already on the agenda, with major promotional companies eyeing up the bantamweight star.

Irish outlet Boylesports would offer a price of 2/1 on Conlan to become a pro world champ at some stage in his career. Many felt the price was overly short, however the current prices for Conlan are now even shorter.

Following his controversial Olympic campaign and his subsequent link-up with Top Rank, Conlan raced to 4(4)-0 in the pros and will fight again on Saturday December 9th at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The card in the Big Apple will be headlined by Vasyl Lomachenko, who defends his WBO super featherweight title against his fellow double Olympic gold medalist Guillermo Rigondeaux and – if the bookies are to be believed – it won’t be long until Conlan himself is fighting for major titles.

SkyBet are now the company offering odds on Conlan’s world title chase and they offer three prices.

While back in 2015 the price was 2/1 with no time limit, the available odds now are considerably shorter.

Conlan is odds-on at 4/5 to win a world title from one of the four major governing bodies by the end of 2018 – an extremely short time period of just 14 months.

To win a world title by the end of 2019, the Falls Road featherweight is shorter again at 4/9.

Finally to win a world title by the end of the 2020, Conlan is just 1/6.

Other prices of note include Conlan’s middleweight stablemate Jason Quigley, who is 11/10 to win a major belt by the end of 2019.

Then there is Conlan’s rival prospect Shakur Stevenson, who is 6/4 to win a world title by the end of 2019.
