O’Brien secures clash with Matchroom star on PPV card

Craig O’Brien has been handed the chance to change his career on a PPV Sky Sports card.

The Inner City favourite won a host of new fans and advertised his talents to a massive Irish audience with Irish title victory over Jay Byrne live on TG4 last time out.

However, another dip in Dublin boxing meant he hasn’t been able to capitalise and his proposed July 7th clash fell through along with the cancellation of the The Beginning card – but just when people started to ask what was next for the natural talent Irish-Boxing.com can reveal ‘The Iron’ has been handed a big fight.

The Paschal Collins trained and managed Irish champion will fight Matchroom prospect Anthony Fowler on the massive Dillian Whyte v Joseph Parker undercard and will next appear on a Sky Box Office broadcast show at the O2 Arena on the 28th of this month.

Fowler is a Matchroom and Eddie Hearn favourite and is being built for big things. The Liverpool native hasn’t done too much wrong since turning over as a pro and is the only fighter to stop former O’Brien foe Byrne.

Fowler’s profile and the Sky platform provides O’Brien with the chance to put his name out there and indeed change his career.

No doubt the Dublin light middleweight is the B side and is seen as an opponent by Matchroom, but their is an element of natural boxing ability that gives ‘The Iron’ a chance to upset the odds and become a burgeoning star in his own right.

O’Brien adds further Irish interest to a card that includes a world title defence for Katie Taylor and is topped by Dillian Whyte who has Cork roots.

Another interesting footnote is O’Brien’s former foes involvement. Jay Byrne worked alongside Collins to help secure the clash for the man who broke his heart by denying him the Irish title in March.
