Northern Ireland finish 6th in Commonwealth Youth Games medal table


Following two silvers and two bronze, the six-man Northern Ireland team have finished sixth in the Commonwealth Youth Games medals table.

Middleweight Kane Tucker and welterweight Anthony Johnston were both edged out on split decisions in their finals yesterday, while John Moran and Colm Murphy took bronze in the Bahamas.

England dominated the table, taking seven golds from their ten participants.

It is the joint-third best finish, along with 2008, for a Northern Ireland team at the Games. With three golds and two silvers, Northern Ireland topped the medals table at the last edition of the tournament in 2015, while there was a fourth-placed finish back in 2004 – when none other than Carl Frampton took silver.
