Noely Murphy is “only getting started” ahead of tenth pro fight

Last time Noely Murphy [9(2)-0] took to the ring for a pro fight it was in front of hundreds of his screaming fans, with him winning his first belt and being jubilantly carried out of the ring.

His next fight, tomorrow night at the Paramount Theater in Brooklyn, it is back to ‘reality’ somewhat – although things are really starting to fall into place for the Cork welter.

Since his BUI Celtic title win over Galician Avelino Vazquez in February, Murphy has seen his star rise.

Looking back on his homecoming, the New York-based 22 year old told Irish-Boxing.com that “February was crazy, I don’t think anything will top that.”

“The love and respect shown from the people I grew up around meant everything, it was a great night and there has definitely been a buzz since that fight.”

Tomorrow night in the Big Apple it’s another eight rounder for Murphy, his second, and the Macroom youngster is loving how his career is being advanced.

He described how “I’m adjusting really well to the longer rounds.”

“It’s all about mindset. I’m doing ten rounds in sparring with top, top prospects so I’m very happy with how things are going!”

In a recent interview, promoter Lou DiBella lavished praise on Murphy, and said that “out of all my kids, he might be the one who has improved the most lately.”

Murphy agrees with these sentiments, and stated that “yes I have definitely improved a lot, especially in the last year and I feel like I’m only getting started.”

“My trainer Marcos Suarez is the best in New York and we’re always working hard!”

Tomorrow Murphy will face what looks to be the toughest opponent of his career – LA’s Brian Jones [14(8)-7(1)], who fought world title challenger Thomas Dulorme at the start of the year.

While the Munster fighter isn’t one for homework, he is anticipating a tough fight.

“I haven’t seen anything on him,” Murphy admitted

“I never watch too much of my opponents. I may watch some clips tonight, but I’m more focused on my performance.”

“He is definitely a good lad and I’m 100% ready for a war if needs be. You can’t take anybody for granted in this sport.”
