No more Irish interest in this seasons WSB

By IABA press officer Bernard O’Neill
For the first time since the launch of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) four years ago no Irish boxer will be part of the WSB title winning team.
Team Germany, who had Michael Conlan and David Oliver Joyce in their ranks, crashed out of the tournament at the quarter-finals stage last weekend after they were thrashed 5-0 away to the Astana Arlans of Kazakhstan.
Conlan claimed a victory for Germany in the first leg of the last-eight showdown, but Team Deutschland lost that leg 3-2 –  and the match 8-2 on aggregate.
Italia Thunder, who signed Paddy Barnes this season, beat the Baku Fires of Azerbaijan 4-1 at the weekend, but it wasn’t enough as they lost the first leg 5-0 – and the match 6-4 on aggregate.
John Joe Nevin (Paris United), Willie McLaughlin (Milano Thunder, now Italia Thunder) and Eric Donovan (Astana Arlans) helped their respective sides win the WSB Championships over the last three seasons.
