No excuses for Noely Murphy ahead of ring return

Noel Murphy [12(2)-1(0)] is determined to make good rather than make excuses.

The Cork light welterweight returns to the ring at The Amazura Concert Hall in Queens on Friday December 7th, a bill which also includes an eight-rounder for Monaghan 140lber Larry Fryers..

The six-rounder represents Murphy’s first fight since losing to Trinidadian Mikkel LesPierre in a WBC USA title contest back in February – a bout in which a ninth round point deduction served to deny him a majority draw.

Failure to claim that ranking title and the manner of the defeat hurt the 24-year-old and angered his team. However, his manager, Kevin Crowley, is adamant Murphy hasn’t been wallowing, hasn’t been basking in excuses but has used the reverse as motivation.

The Macroom fan favourite has been training hard – including having a spell in Colorado with new WBO champion at the weight, Maurice Hooker

Crowley claims the New York-based Rebel returns a more determined, focused and stronger fighter on December 7th.

“We are very happy that Noel is back in action on December 7th in New York after a few dates fell through on us over the last few months,” Crowley told Irish-Boxing.com.

“Noel has stayed focused and has been very patient. He stays in the gym and is ready,” he added before reflecting on Murphy’s first career defeat.

“Coming off a close loss in his last fight against Mikkel Les Pierre he is more determined than ever to come back stronger.”

“Our team does not make excuses after fights and Noel knows a few small things would have changed the result in that fight. It won’t happen again.”

“He is working hard with trainer Marcos Suarez in the Bronx and his former trainer in Ireland, Tom Power, will be heading to New York to team up with Suarez for the fight.”

While defeat was unfortunate for Murphy as he made a step up there was an element of back to the drawing board for the former BUI Celtic titlist.

However, Crowley has a plan, he suggests victory on December 7th followed by two quick 2019 wins will set up another big fight.

“On the future, Noel obviously is fully focused only on December 7th but, as his manager, I do have plans for 2019. Those plans includes two fights in the first half of the year to keep Noel busy.”

“As always, we are looking for good opportunities on both sides of the pond we have contacts and believe a big fight is coming for Noel in 2019, he will stay at the light welterweight division too.”
