No carbs in Marbs for Fitzgerald as he gets ready to deliver fireworks on Saturday

HE celebrated his birthday in the holiday destination that is Marbella, but there has been no fun in the sun for Anthony Fitzgerald.

While the ‘no carbs before marbs’ brigade worked to get beach bodies post visiting Spain for a massive holiday blow out, ‘Fitzy’ has been working non stop in the Sun to get ready for his ring return.

The Dubliner fights in Belfast this Saturday for the first time since his defeat to former World champion Hassan N’Dam last December and for the first time under the MGM banner.

The former Irish champion is excited about starting a new chapter in his career and claims he has worked hard to give fight fans a glimpse of what lies ahead under the guidance of Seamus Macklin.

“There has been no fun in the Sun for me,” Fitzgerald told Irish-boxing.com. “It has been all work and while it is good craic in the MGM it is all about hard work and getting ready for fights.

“People will notice the changes in me. We have worked on various things in the gym and I want to bring them into the fight. Myself and Deco (Geraghty) will continue the recent success of the MGM with wins on Saturday. It is great to see the lads you train with win their fights, but it is about me winning now Saturday.”

After two defeats, an Irish title reverse to Eamonn O’Kane and a points loss to N’Dam, ‘The Pride’ is looking forward to a return to winning ways. A six month absence also means there is a element of riding himself of ring rust against Dan Blackwell on Saturday, but the Inner City Dub is adamant his return will be heralded with fireworks.

“I can’t wait to just get in there and fight. It has been a while. I am ready and really looking forward to it,” Fitzgerald.

“As always I predict fireworks when I fight. People know what the get from me. I go in the ring to fight and Saturday will be no different. I am down for six rounds and I don’t mind fighting on a small hall show, it will help me get back going and get the rust out. It will be good to the get the rounds in, if it goes six.”

“I would also like to thank everyone in the MGM from the fighters to the staff. They have been a massive help ahead of this fight as have the people from Slainte’s bar.”
