New pro Francy Luzoho aiming to put on the “best debut in Irish history”

Francy Luzoho wants to make the mother of all statements when he punches for pay for the first time this Saturday night.

The Steven O’Rourke-trained switch hitter has promised to deliver the greatest ever Irish boxing debut at the National Basketball Arena.

Measuring debut performances could prove impossible but Luzoho believes fans are in for something special on the ‘Rise Again’ card.

The Dublin light welterweight comes to the ring hugely confident following an extended camp which spanned from Inchicore to Tenerife and is ready to prove himself in the squared circle.

“It’s going to be a memorable night. I do plan for my debut to go down as the best debut in Irish history,” he told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I know it’s crazy but my Mum always says don’t aim for the stars, aim for the next universe,”

It’s a bold statement and, ironically, one which wasn’t delivered in a cocky manner.

One of five ‘Rise Again’ debutants just seems to have set himself a high bar and not just in terms of his opening fight salvo.

“It has to be, I can’t be no other way. I strive under pressure. If I can’t strive under pressure then I can’t perform.”

“I always aim high. What’s the point in saying your going to be the best in the World if you don’t believe it?”

“I plan to be the #1 boxer coming out of Ireland. That’s my goal from the start.”

To become the best to come out of Ireland Luzoho will first have to become the best in Ireland and that’s something the fighter who has two-weight Irish title dreams is happy to try and do.

The fighter, who was calling out Sean Creagh before he even signed a pro deal, is open to fighting any of the other Irish 140lbers.

“Domestically? Anyone and everyone. That’s me. I am old school that way,” he explained.

“If you want to be the best you fight the best. If you see someone you feel can take you to the next level or that can challenge you mentally or physically then why not fight them?”

“I am not afraid of anyone,” he added before there might he might first have to go follow a learning curve.

The fighter of Congolese stock is awaiting the identity of who he will face in his opening four rounder and is hoping for a stiff test.

‘The Butcher Boy’ explained that “I’d love learning fights but as long as they are good learning fights.”

“I’d like to fight good, tough – I hate to say journeymen – but someone good and tough not someone that can just get blown over.”
