New date for Frampton – Jackal receives court date for McGuigan case

He has yet to confirm a fight date, but Carl Frampton has been given a date for his courtroom battle with Cyclone Promotions.

A High Court judge set aside two weeks to hear the lawsuit which centres on alleged earnings in excess of £4m with proceedings now set to start on September 5th, ending a series of delays to the dispute.

‘The Jackal’ had hoped the legal battle would play out this month and that the late summer would play host to his first fight since his defeat to IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington last December.

However, upon legal representation for both parties appearing in front of the Belfast High Courtlast month, the proposed hearing was pushed back to September at the earliest.

The former two-weight world champion is still planning a summer ring return despite the delay, but looks likely to stave off a return to world level till after the case with Cyclone Promotion.

Frampton is suing the now dissolved Cyclone Promotions for alleged earnings of over £4 million in a counter-suit to Barry McGuigan action over an alleged breach of contract.

Having turned over under former world champion McGuigan and later bringing on board son Shane as trainer, Frampton split with the family in 2017.

The Tiger’s Bay boxer brought on board Frank Warren and later Top Rank promotionally, as well as taking on Johnney Roye from Mack The Knife Global as his manager – with training duties assumed by Jamie Moore.

Frampton now brings a lawsuit against his former employers that refers to contracts for fights in Northern Ireland, England, and the United States.

Lawyers for the McGuigans have stressed that all of the allegations are categorically denied and have accused the popular boxer of dishonesty regarding profit arrangements.
