National Elite finalist Tommy Hyde added to Cork’s first pro show in a decade

One of Cork boxing’s rising young talents Tommy Hyde is the first name confirmed to fight on the Leeside Revolution undercard.

The 2019 National Elite light heavyweight finalist will will fight at the Neptune Stadium on July 20 on what promoter Martin Horgan promises will be a ‘blockbuster’ card.

It will be the first time Hyde, whose father Gary managed the likes of Guillermo Rigondeaux and Hassan Ndam  among others, will fight in his home county in three years.

The teen joins bill topper Noel Murphy on the card and will play a supporting role as his fellow Cork man fights Dublin’s Jay Byrne for the Irish light middleweight title.

Hyde’s appearance on the show doesn’t mean he has turned over. The vest it seems will remain firmly on and his contest  is being billed as an ‘amateur boxing interval’.

Promoter Horgan hopes to announce further names and undercard fights over the coming weeks and is promising ‘some top quality Irish fighters’ for the Cork fans to come and watch.

Murphy v Byrne

Amateur’s including the likes of Kenny Egan and Katie Taylor have appeared on pro shows before, but it hasn’t been the done thing of late- and it’s not the only unique approach taken by Horgan.

There will also be a Muaythai element to the show. Before the boxing gloves off around 6pm there will be two hours of Muaythai action headlined by Sean Clancy.
