Myers: A lot has changed since I last fought Barnes

A lot has changed since Paddy Barnes and Hughie Myers last fought stresses the Ryston Club man.

The last time the pairs path crossed in 2012 two time Olympic medalist and popular pug Barnes emerged with the Irish title thanks to the a 21-17 win.

However, in Barnes absence Myers claimed the 49kg title last year and goes into Friday’s final as reigning champion. The young puncher obviously believes the experience has improved him and he also suggests the new round scoring system might help achieve an upset.

Household name Barnes is gunning for his seventh National title, but Myers claims he targeting a second title victory.

“Two years ago it was a different scoring system and a different fight, it’s 10-point must scoring now. I’ll be going in there to win, give it my best shot.”
