“My mind’s bulletproof” – Dee Sullivan confident of Gold Coast glory

Big Dee Sullivan is full of confidence ahead of his first major tournament.

The Belfast heavyweight was confirmed for the Northern Irish team for the Commonwealth Games in Australia this coming April, capping a resurgent period in his career where he has transformed his body and become a serious contender at 91kg.

Having won a second Ulster Elite Senior title in November, Sullivan secured himself a place on the plane Down Under and believes it’s a testament to how much he has improved recently.

The Emerald fighter told Irish-Boxing.com that “I am very excited to be going to the Games with such a great team and a great bunch of coaches.”

“The Ulster High Performance has helped me massively over the last two years and it’s great that they can see the improvements I’ve made and select me for the Games.”

Sullivan jokingly compared himself to Conor McGregor following his Ulster Elite Senior title win, and the West Belfast boxer is not going to the Gold Coast to take part.

He expects good competition in one of the strongest divisions at the Games, but is undeterred.

Sullivan outlined how “there’s always good guys at heavyweights that come from England but I am supremely confident that I can go to Australia and get a gold medal. I am not going out there to settle for anything less.”

“My mind’s bulletproof and I have a driving force behind me in my two daughters, girl, and whole family.

“All I am in Australia for is a gold medal.”
