My Belt! – Jono Carroll vows to take World Title from chinny Tennyson-Farmer winner

‘Chinny’ duo James Tennyson and Tevin Farmer fight for Jono Carroll‘s IBF super featherweight title on October 20th – proclaims ‘King Kong’ himself.

The Dubliner had hoped to challenge ‘The American Idol’ for the strap this Autumn but was pipped to the fight by Belfast’s European champion Tennyson. The Poleglass puncher will now have the chance to become Ireland’s 22nd world champion when he fights the American on the DAZN Matchroom show in Boston next month.

Carroll’s disappointment has been offset by the fact he looks set to secure an IBF world title final eliminator versus Frenchman Guillaume Frenois [46(12)-1(0)].

Victory in that fight will make Carroll, who has rejoined with Matchroom, next in line for the winner of the October 20th world title fight.

As a result, the always outspoken southpaw feels confident enough that the winner of the Boston world title fight will be just keeping the belt warm for him.

“I feel the World title shot has been coming a long time,” said Carroll, who has engaged in some online trash talk with champ Farmer in recent weeks.

“In my head, Tevin Farmer and James Tennyson are just fighting for my belt anyway. It’s already mine.”

Carroll [16(3)-0] is not just confident he beats either the Philly fighter or his countryman Tennyson, he claims he would knock both out.

The 26-year-old, who has shown a noticeable increase in power in his last three fights, outlined that “if I fought Tennyson, I’d play with him. The same goes for Farmer, who’d get stopped as well.”

“They’re both chinny and like I said, in my mind that belt they’re fighting for already belongs to me.”

Upon leaving Matchroom the first time around, Carroll was vocal about how he felt he didn’t get the chances and airtime he deserved.

Now, having worked hard to establish himself as a name on BoxNation and BT Sport, the Marbella-based fighter returns to Sky Sports and Matchroom ready to make a bigger impact.

Carroll enters the world stage and links up with Matchroom off the back of a dominant rematch win over Declan Geraghty where he put on an eye-catching performance before, during, and after.

The Finglas fighter outlined how “I’m very happy to sign with Matchroom. This couldn’t come at a better time.”

“Anyone who watched the Declan Geraghty fight and heard all the hype about it says I made that night.”

“That was a high-profile fight. Deco is a very good fighter but I still put him away in good style. That performance definitely helped but this sort of move has been coming for a long time before that.”
