Carl Frampton’s European title dreams are in severe jeopardy as Rendell Munroe confirmed he was offered, but turned down the chance to fight the hot Belfast prospect on September 10.
Frampton was set for a mouth watering continental clash with Bernard Dunne destroyer Kiko Martinez on the undercard of Paul McCloskey’s WBA world title eliminator with Breidis Prescott.
The Spaniard, however pulled out over the weekend, prompting Team Frampton to approach Limerick’s Willie Casey.
Big Bang is yet to decide if he wants the clash or not and now
www.irish-boxing.com can reveal former European champ and world title challenger Munroe has elected against fighting one of the super bantamweight’s division rising stars.
The Bin Man is said to be confident he can dispose of the Jackal, but despite being in preparation for a September fight night the mandatory European challenger rebuffed Matchroom’s advances.
“Rendell was offered the fight with Frampton for the EBU title but two weeks was not long enough for him to safely make weight. If we’d have had more notice we would have happily boxed Frampton,” Hatton promotion’s Richard Poxon explained.
That leaves the Celtic Champion and number one British contender Frampton struggling to find an approved opponent with just 10 days to go.
Whilst the talented pugilist will most certainly get another chance to shine on the bigger stage, it looks like he will have to settle for intercontinental honours come September 10.
