Moylette ready to apply ‘Round 5’ courage to the rebuild

Ray Moylette [11(4)-1(0)] doesn’t do down and out, you just have to look at what has quickly just become known as ‘Round 5’ in Irish boxing circles for proof of that.

So, when reflecting in on his heartbreaking defeat to Christian Uruzquieta last Friday it’s no surprise to hear him take a defiant stance whilst promising to get up and dust himself off in career terms.

The Mayo man will now apply the attitude, courage, heart and stubborn approach he showed during what is fast becoming a cult Irish boxing round to his comeback.

Just like he did twice midway through his WBC International Silver title fight with the Mexican, the Assassin Promotions lightweight promises to rise to his feet and regroup before going on to achieve great things in the sport.

Indeed, Moylette claims the fact he didn’t wilt under pressure in a round that ultimately cost him the fight and a world ranking has proven to him that he has warrior spirit needed to achieve big in the toughest of sports.

“We all have been knocked down in life. If we can all take something from Friday night it’s to get up again and keep going,” Moylette told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I am proud of my efforts. Of course I’m critical of my own performance as I am after every fight but I can see this being a milestone in my career. I’m going on to great things after this.”

“I can already picture people saying to me. ‘Do you remember that night in the TF when you got knocked down in the fifth and you got up again? I knew you would be a champion after that’.”

“I see this as a turning point in my career. People now know how real it is and how serious I am. I have learned so much about myself and I hope people can see the honesty and integrity in me also. I will always wear my heart on my sleeve and if needs be I will leave on my shield. No half measures. I have been branded a warrior after last Friday night. That’s exactly what I am.”

The 28-year-old Celtic Warrior Gym fighter is happy to have proved he has a set of balls, but takes a lot more from the fight than just his performance.

The media savvy lightweight knows his display and the TG4 platform it played out on will enhance his standing and his profile to levels that can only assist his career chances.

He also takes pride in how he represented his locality and the sport he loves to a TV audience of over 280,000.

“I’m obviously disappointed with the result of the fight but I’m proud of what we pulled off. The biggest night in Irish Boxing in the last 10 years.”

“A real 50/50 fight that had it all. A crowed driven by passion and pride. Knockdowns and skill over 10 rounds. If it was a script it could be a real movie. It was like the first Rocky movie. I went the distance when it seemed unlikely.”

“The people in the theatre or the people watching on TG4 can now connect with me and follow me on my journey,” he adds before bringing it back to that round again.

“I’ve got more praise for getting up in the fifth than I have got for my 11 wins to date. How could I be disappointed coming out if the ring with the reception I got from everyone. I was honoured to leave it all in the ring.”

Moylette may have lost his unbeaten record and the chance to claim a first belt, but he gained the respect of so many on Friday last and claims that made him feel like a winner when he woke on Saturday.

“I was very disappointed when the result was read out. I didn’t know what corner I was in. When the MC said blue corner I had to look around and check my corner. I was hoping I was in the blue. The dream was shattered but when I met everyone after it filled me with pride.”

“I was in the dressing room after with my two brothers and it dawned on me what had happened. I was filled with pride and I woke up Saturday morning as if I had won. Very strange but I knew we put on a masterclass and a show.”

While there is no rebuilding needed as such Moylette hopes to return to winning ways Stateside in March – it’s quite possible he could be on a rumoured big Boston St Patrick’s Weekend card.

The Paschal Collins trained fighter will take things easy over the Christmas, but believes Friday was the start of something special and is planning a big 2019.

“I took a few days off, literately done nothing. It was great to catch up with friends over food. I went back to the gym today and done a light 5k. I would have never dreamed that I would be back in the gym so quick and especially after a loss.”

“I’m going to tip away over Christmas, nothing boxing specific just general training. I want to get back to winning ways and start building once again. I can see myself Stateside early next year if we can get it over the line. I realise now we don’t need to rush anything.”

“Everything will happen exactly when it’s meant to. I have unbelievable support from my inner circle and now with the success of the Homecoming fight my stock has hit the roof. This is now the beginning believe it or not. All my chips are in and I hope to hit the jackpot late in 2019.”
