Moore time – Coach believes mandatory Cameron’s Taylor chances increase with each fight

Jamie Moore has all but told Katie Taylor to fight Chantelle Cameron before she has time to improve.

The Northampton fighter secured mandatory status for the undisputed lightweight champion’s WBC belt with victory over Commonwealth super featherweight titlist Anisha Basheel in Brentwood over the weekend.

The points win makes the former Team GB operator a viable option for the Bray fighter’s proposed Autumn return.

Moore, who also trains Carl Frampton and Steven Ward and has worked with Conrad Cummings and beat Ciaran Healy to claim the Irish title back in 2008, says if he was looking after the Bray native he would make the high-profile fight next.

“If I was Katie Taylor I’d be saying ‘I’ll fight her next’ because the more bouts she has under her belt the better she is going to get,” the respected coach told IFL TV post Cameron’s Brentwood Centre win on Saturday.

While Moore would want a fight that has been discussed as one of a number of high profile bouts immediately for Taylor, he thinks his charge would be best served waiting.

The Manchester-based coach would accept ‘the right kind of deal’ for a fight now, but would fancy his charges chances more if she had time to get a few more rounds under her belt.

“If that fight was offered to us and if it was the right kind of deal then of course we’d take it. That’s what she is in the game for.”

“For me, the longer in between that fight in terms of how many more contests Chantelle has is better for us because she is still relatively inexperienced as a pro. I am so glad she got 10 rounds under her belt tonight because that will do her the world of good.”

“We’d take it but if we get another fight or two in between that’s better for us,” he added.
