Top Pro Gif Ad
Next week 15 boxers from Dublin, five coaches, and 25 fans, will fly to New York for a very special fight night.

Monkstown BC, who this year boasted nine national champions, are heading Stateside to participate in one of the last ever fight cards at the World-famous Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn. The gym will soon move to a new premises after 32 years at their current location – but not before a high-quality clash with the Dublin side next Friday.

Among Monkstown’s travelling party are five national champions, three of whom will face reigning American champions during the week-long trip which will also see them take in sparring at some of the top gyms in Queens and Brooklyn.

Irish-Boxing.com spoke to team manager Tony Brien who explained that “basically after our best year since the club started in 2004, we the coaches have decided to take our boxers away to test them in America.”

“It’s a trip of a lifetime for the boxers travelling. And a good experience for the coaches to learn too.”
