New New England champ McLaughlin wants more belts

Micheal McLaughlin has got a taste for title success following victory last Saturday night, and now he wants to dine out on a domestic title win before the year is out.
The Donegal welterweight outpointed Shakha Moore at the second time of asking in Connecticut on Saturday night to claim a first career title.
Fighting again for the New England title McLaughlin and his greater boxing skills prevailed, taking a unanimous decision on the judges’s scorecards (79-72, 79-72, 79-73).
The American-based Irish puncher likes the feel of title around his waist, and he would like to try a green belt on for size.

“Winning the title feels great. It has made me want more titles.”

“Hopefully I’ll get a shot at the Irish title before the year is out. We will see how that works out, but I’ll most likely be defending my title next time I am out,” McLaughlin told Irish-boxing.com.

The Donegal fighter, who pushed his record to 12(5)-1(0)-1 with the win, outboxed his foe, but like the first fight, which was stopped after a clash of heads, he had to deal with being cut over the eye.

“I’m delighted with the win. It was the first time I went eight rounds and I did it pretty well.”

“I paced myself well, hitting in and out. For the most part I managed to avoid his big head, even though he still caught me with it a few times and cut me in the sixth.”
