“Mexican Slayer” Frampton aiming to continue Odyssey KO streak with career-best performance

The venue may have a new name but Carl Frampton is confident the SSE Arena will witness the same result as all his Odyssey fights.

‘The Jackal’ has six knockouts from six fights at a venue that became known as the Jackal’s Den and he believes he can make it seven from seven this Saturday.

The first of those stoppages came against Robbie Quon in a 2011 Commonwealth title fight, then Steve Molitor, Kiko Martinez, Jeremy Parodi, Hugo Cazares, and Chris Avalos all suffered the same the fate.

Now returning to a venue Frampton admitted that, much to the annoyance of some of those around him, he keeps referring to as the Odyssey for the first time since 2015 the former two weight World champion is keen to keep the 100 percent average up.

To do that he will have to take out a fighter that has never been stopped in Horatio Garcia, but Frampton is predicting the performance of his life and believes it’s enough to ensure an inside the distance win.

“It’s going to be the performance of my career. I do believe that. I am going to be sharp, I am going to be accurate and hopefully I get the job done inside the distance,” said the featherweight star.

“I have a 100 percent knockout ratio in the Odyssey and I will be looking to continue that. I am looking to win that’s the most important thing, but the way things are going I am confident I can do it inside.”

Frampton spoke about being in a happy place and enjoying fighting again at the top table and the fighter that has changed promoter, manager and trainer over the last few months was in jovial mood.

However, upon hearing Team Garcia had suggested Mexican’s are his kryptonite he wasn’t afraid to deliver a tongue-lashing, claiming he was to Mexican’s what Buffy was to vampires.

“Gonzalez had me over, but I got up and won. The only Mexican to beat me was Leo Santa Cruz and I beat him aswell, so I am the Mexican Slayer. I beat five or six of them and he will be another one.”

Another Mexican he will hope to disappoint on Saturday is one Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, although he is delighted the boxing superstar will be attendance.

“It’s going to be a good night and to have a superstar of boxing there is great. Right now AJ and Canelo are the two superstars of World boxing and to have him ringside is a big deal.”
