Men’s European Championships – DRAW

The nine Irish boxers have made weight and the draw has been completed for the Men’s European Elite Championships which begin today in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

(Match-ups are Round of 32 unless stated)

Rio Olympian Brendan Irvine is seeded fourth and has received a bye to the flyweight Last 16 where he faces Batuhan Çiftçi of Turkey.

Bantamweight Kurt Walker begins against Georgian Severiane Chiladze.

In his major international tournament debut, Galway lightweight Pat Mongan will face German Arthur Bril. Mongan defeated the same opponent at the International Round Robin in Dublin recently.

European Games bronze medalist Sean McComb faces Czechian Erik Agateljan.

Rio Olympian Steven Donnelly is up against Russian Sergei Sobylinskii in his opening welterweight bout. The Russian defeated Irish champion Dean Walsh at the International Round Robin.

Another making his major international tournament debut is Glasnevin’s Emmet Brennan, and the Dublin middleweight has been drawn against Poland’s Bartosz Golebiewski.

At light heavy, double European gold medalist Joe Ward is seeded first and has received a bye into the Last 16 where he will face the winner of the bout between Slivak Matus Strnisko and Frenchman Mamadou Diabira.

At heavyweight Darren O’Neill has been handed a bye into the Last 16 where he will face the winner of the bout between Pole Igor Jakubowski and home favourite Ramazan Muslimov.

Finally, at super heavy, Tipperary titan Dean Gardiner makes his return and faces a Last 16 bout with Ukrainian Victor Vykhryst.

Belfast light welter McComb is the only man through the ropes today, and is in action at around 17:30 (Irish time).
