McKenna wants Maxwell moment – The Mighty Celt plans spectacular KO

Tyrone McKenna [17(6)-1(0)-1] is planning to produce a spectacular knockout at the ‘magical’ Ulster Hall.

After four relatively high profile and tough fights back to back, ‘The Mighty Celt’ takes an earned step down as he faces Oscar Amador [10(1)-15(5)] on the Keeler V Cummings 2 card.

The southpaw, who is said to be close to agreeing a big fight with Ohara Davies, admits it is a drop in level  considering he fought Anto Upton, Jack Catterall and Lewis Benson in 2018.

However, he is determined to ensure he doesn’t drop his performance levels and wants to produce a performance and even finish worthy of a ‘special’ venue.

McKenna described how “I’m back where I belong. I love fighting in Belfast. I’m there to do a job and I have to take my opponent seriously and put on the big performance everyone’s expecting.”

“Ulster Hall is magic. It’s that simple. For atmosphere, it’s second to none. The crowd is on top of you. So many great fighters have fought there and to be a part of that history is very special.

“This will be a more straightforward bout for me than my last two. My last two have been wars. This guy shouldn’t be going the distance with me. I’m excited to showcase my talent and skills.

“The one thing I am aiming for is a spectacular knockout. That’s what the crowd want to see and I want to finish this in style.”

Having witnessed training partner Sam Maxwell produce the comeback of comebacks as well as a highlight reel knockout last weekend McKenna has been inspired.

The 29-year-may not want his fight to play host to the same drama as Maxwell’s affair, considering his English training partner was down multiple times, but he does want that eye-catching finish.

“We were all inspired by our team-mate Sam Maxwell the other night. His knockout was unbelievable. I was having palpitations all through the fight! He was hurt in every round and to pull out that knockout in the last 10 seconds was unreal.”

“It spurs you on when you see a team-mate get bashed up like that, get up and produce a knockout like that. It makes you want to go to war yourself.”
