McKenna: I am looking to add another KO to CV on Saturday night

TYRONE McKenna is ready to send his fifth pro opponent to sleep in the Ring of Dreams North Carolina tonight.

The Belfast 24 year old takes on Anthony Dave on a card that includes Ray Ginley and John Joe Nevin full of confidence and claims he will ‘batter’ his foe on Saturday night.

The light welterweight seemed content to use his superior skill and bank rounds earlier in his career, but having tasted blood with a knock out last time out and is targeting another KO.

“Camp has been great I’ve had top quality sparring with top undefeated prospects. I’m sparring seven and eight rounds and have been working hard with my coach Bozy, So I know I’m defiantly ready for this fight,” McKenna told Irish-boxing.com.

“I’m fighting a guy called Anthony Dave. To be honest I don’t know much about him but I know I’ve trained right, I’m looking sharp and have a lot of belief in my skills. So going in to the ring I know my opponents getting battered.”

“During sparring I’ve been dropping undefeated fighters so I’m feeling strong so I’m hoping for another KO on the CV.”

The Greenblood’s Philadelphia based puncher was always earmarked as one to watch, but he believes his chances of success in the pro ranks have been increased by basing himself in America.

“There is a lot of difference compared to Ireland and the UK out here. The boxing style is completely different. Although in saying that my style hasn’t changed loads. My coach Bozy is a great coach and has me using my good footwork and boxing, unlike most American trainers who want you to be more flat footed.

“The sparring I feel is a lot tougher out here in Philly has a lot of good gym fighters and a lot of up and coming prospects that give you tough spars and that’s what I love so I’m learning a great deal”

While McKenna is happy to learn this year he is hoping to secure titles in 2015.

“I’m still fairly new to the pro game with only four  fights, this being my fifth, but I’m picking it up quickly and hope 2015 will be a big year with hopefully some title fights.”
