McGuigan: Quigg will run for cover after Frampton’s display

by Jonny Stapleton

CARL Frampton’s sensational one punch knockout victory on Saturday night will strike fear into Scott Quigg, according to Barry McGuigan.

Frampton’s mentor believes the shot that sent Scot Kris Huhges to the canvas will send British Champion, Quigg running for cover.

The Belfast fighter has been actively seeking a fight with his fellow hyped prospect to no avail for over 6 months.

The super bantamweight duo are undoubtedly on a collision course but have different ideas as to when they should collide.

The Bury fighter wants to build the fight up, but ‘The Jackal’ believes the foundations for a quality match are already there and wants to challenge for Quigg’s title in the Sumer.

Former World featherweight champion McGuigan believes Quigg will be less keen now, but isn’t deterred and is predicting British and European success regardless.

“I’m not sure it will happen with Scott Quigg now. I am sure he’ll not want much to do with Carl after that performance. That is the most efficient knockout that he’s had, but this is the thing – I see it in the gym every day. I see him knocking out welterweights. People question me when I talk about how good and powerful he is, but I’ve seen it. He hits them on the chin and they’re gone. Last week he had a light-middleweight out on his feet.”

“Quigg isn’t too keen on a fight with us and he will be less so no, but we’re not going to worry about that. We’re going to chase the European title.”
