McComb reveals one of the secrets to impressive pro start

Sparring that values guile as much as guts is one of the keys to Sean McComb’s impressive start to pro life.

‘The Public Nuisance’ has caught the eye and even surprised some with how well he has settled into the pro ranks.

Indeed, his step up win over Troy James – McComb’s sixth since turning over as recent as last Augu st- in Belfast on the last weekend of March cemented his status as one to watch out for in 2019.

The Belfast light welter proved his class and showed some real star quality against a former British title challenger and looks set for a big 12 months.

Speaking with time to reflect on the win, McComb heralded the sparring he has been getting during his Scottish training camps as one of the reasons he has been able to impress so much.

With WBO European ranking title holder Sam Maxwell and fellow Belfast favourite Tyrone McKenna in the same Glasgow-based stable, McComb claims he can’t but learn in the training ring.

However, he also points to the technical element of the sparring when explaining why it’s so beneficial.

“It’s great having me, Sam Maxwell and Tyrone McKenna in the same gym. The sparring is competitive but not overheated. We try to outfox each other rather than kill each other,” said McComb.

“It’s all for learning. If I find something is working in my favour against them, I’ll tell them how to prevent it. Vice-versa. They’ll tell me if they’re catching me with certain punches.

“We’re improving each other all the time. We all want to see each other go on to win world titles and if that happens then happy days.

“I was happy with my performance last time out and I’m looking forward to find out what’s next for me. I feel I’m improving each time.”
