McComb proving an MTK ‘Nuisance’- Vaughan claims star prospect may have earned title shot

Danny Vaughan assures both he and MTK know what’s best for Sean McComb.

‘What do you with him now’ was a question poised by media and fans alike as the Belfast fighter passed his toughest test to date with flying colours at the Ulster Hall on Friday.

‘The Public Nuisance’ followed up an impressive shut out win over former British challenger Troy James in March by stopping Miroslav Serban in the first round of just his seventh fight.

The last time Serban was in town he gave soon to be European title challenger Paul Hyland Jr a good fight and even dropped the recent British challenger.

So when McComb bamboozled him inside of a round the knowledgeable Belfast fight following debated whether or not you let a nine month pro novice gain more experience or let him off the leash.

His coach, Danny Vaughan, admits there may be some decisions to be made, but points out Team McComb have made all the right choices so far so should be trusted to do so moving forward.

“He is only 26 and has only been a pro nine months. It’s all right me saying I am going to pull him back or lets get him more experience, but if he is doing his job and stepping up like that then maybe that doesn’t have to be the case,” Vaughan mused when speaking to Irish-boxing.com.

“Look we know were he wants to go and MTK have got him the right fights at the right time so far and they will continue to do that. I will make a decision on that myself too, but he has been matched well right up to tonight.”

In the moments after the fight the Liverpool native, who also trains Paddy Barnes, Tyrone McKenna and Tyrone McCullagh, was leaning toward stepping his charge up again as soon as August.

There was behind the scenes talk of a Feile title fight, but the coach knows not to make any rash decisions and also suggests tempting any title holders into the ring may prove a problem.

“For me right now he is ready for a step again. Whether we will do it right now in August we will wait and see. We will sit down and talk about that, but I don’t think many will want to fight him after that performance.”

Czech champ Serban was a good choice opponent and looked capable of asking a fighter who has come flying out of the blocks some genuine questions.

Vaughan admits that was the plan, but McComb had other ideas.

“From what I see in the gym week in and week out I know how good he is. I know where he is going to go, but if I am honest tonight we expected it to be a much tougher night.

“He was in with a good kid, a tough kid and a kid that was here before against Paul Hyland. He had a good fight with Paul Hyland and dropped him. He was no mug at all.”
