Mayweather v McGregor Undercard Finalised

The undercard for the mega-money Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor showdown later this month has been this evening confirmed.

Dublin light middleweight McGregor makes his professional debut against the five-weight boxing champion on Saturday August 26th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

While McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh had hoped for Irish boxers to feature on the undercard, this will unfortunately not be the case.

There will be five fights on the undercard, three of which will be on the pay-per-view portion of the broadcast shown on Showtime in the U.S and Sky Box Office in the U.K. and Ireland.

In the co-main event, IBF super featherweight champion and Mayweather protege Gervonta Davis [18(17)-0] will defend his belt against Francisco Fonseca [19(13)-0-1].

Another Mayweather Promotions fighter, Gambian-Swede Badou Jack [21(12)-1(1)-2], will box in his first fight at light heavyweight. The former WBC super middleweight champion takes on former WBO champion Nathan Cleverly [30(16)-3(1)] for the Welshman’s WBA ‘regular’ trinket.

The opening fight of the broadcast will be a cruiserweight clash between rising star Andrew Tabiti [14(12)-0] and former two-time IBF champ Steve Cunningham [29(13)-8(1)-1].

Earlier on in the night former IBF welterweight champ Shawn Porter [27(17)-2(0)-1] will face Puerto Rican WBO light welterweight title challenger Thomas Dulorme [24(16)-2(2)].

Finally there is also a debut for English middleweight Savannah Marshall. The Hartlepool fighter is a World Championships gold, silver, and bronze medalist, a Commonwealth gold medalist, and a two-time Olympian. Since turning pro Marshall has been training with Peter Fury. An opponent for the 26 year old is still to be confirmed.

CEO of Mayweather Promotions Leonard Ellerbe exclaimed “what a night this will be for fight fans.”

“Not only will they witness a first-of-its-kind main event, but they will also see two incredible world title fights, as Mayweather Promotions’ very own current and former world champions go head-to-head in separate bouts.”

“Gervonta Davis is nothing short of pure boxing talent with dynamite power. Former super middleweight world champion Badou Jack is making his light heavyweight debut, and looking to take the title away from a tough and experienced Nathan Cleverly. But first, Andrew ‘The Beast’ Tabiti will open the pay-per-view telecast with what I expect to be a magnificent performance.”
