Mayo v Monaghan – Big All-Irish clash added to Boston bill

It’s Mayo versus Monaghan in Boston.

Irish fighters Ray Moylette [11(4)-1(0)] and Larry Fryers [10(3)-1(1)] will trade leather in an intriguing America-hosted all-Irish clash next month.

The Islandeady boxer and the New York-based Clones fighter will battle it out on a Murphys Boxing show at the Encore Casino in Boston Harbour on Friday July 12th.

The clash will take place over eight rounds. Irish-Boxing.com believe the duo had hoped to fight for the vacant Irish title, but with Victor Rabei currently holding the BUI Celtic title at the weight, it’s said the BUI felt the Dubliner should be involved in any 140lbs Irish title fight.

Regardless, it’s still a potentially exciting match up and a lot remains on the line.

For ‘Sugar Ray’ it’s the first time he will be seen in a ring since his sensational but ultimately disappointing, in terms of the result, TV-broadcast Castlebar homecoming.

The 29-year-old former amateur standout saw his stock rise in defeat live on TG4 as he got up of the floor twice in a round in front of a vocal and sizable Royal Theatre crowd.

However, having lost to Mexican Christian Uruzquieta for the WBC International Silver title on that December night he will be more than eager to secure victory in America on July 12th.

Yet, the Paschal Collins-trained fighter hasn’t been handed an easy return, stepping up in weight and straight into a domestic.

In Fryers he faces another keen-to-progress Irish fighter. Like his July 12th opponent, the 28-year-old Ulsterman knows what it’s like to suffer defeat on a breakthrough night. The Monaghan fighter was stopped by Russian dangerman Nikolay Buzolin on a big Matchroom card in Brooklyn.

However, he has gone through the rebuild having made changes to his team. The New York-based puncher put together three quick fire wins before registering victory on his return to the big stage in April.

Fryers last outing was a win over Dakota Polley on the Terence Crawford v Amir Khan WBO welterweight title fight at the Madison Square Garden Arena in Manhattan – said by many to be the most exciting fight on the card.

‘Lethal Larry’ has been preparing for this bout with plenty of sparring with former light welter world champion Chris Algieri and will be confident his size and activity will be crucial advantages over former World Youth and European Elite champion Moylette.

The card next month also features a major fight for another Celtic Warrior in Niall O’Connor [5(4)-0].

The Ballybrack super feather takes a massive step-up to challenge decorated former amateur Luis Arcon [7(7)-0] of Venezuela.
