Matthew Macklin back for good

MATTHEW Macklin claims he won’t be making a fleeting visit to Dublin on August 30 and highlighted his plans to make Ireland is fighting home.

The middleweight contender has been nomadic over the last few years fighting  around the World in a bid to get his hands on a World title.

Indeed the three time world title challenger hasn’t fought in Ireland for 5 years. News of a Macklin topped National show has starved Irish fight fans outside of Belfast excited and they will be pleased further by news ‘Mack The Knife’ isn’t planning a once off Dublin performance.

The 32 year old revealed new promoters Matchroom have an November 02 date late lined up and if both nights go well Macklin could set up a permanent base in the capital  bring back the Bernard Dunne era.

“That is definitely the plan. Have the one in August in the National Stadium and then come back to the O2 in November for either a World title fight with Sam Solimon or the Andy Lee fight. This fight in August and then a big November fight all going well Dublin will become the base and we will pack it out,” before expressing his delight at being back in Ireland.

“I can’t wait. I am really excited it was great to be on the road in those big fights, but it is great to fight at home. Everyone, family and friends can come up. It is expensive to go to America for them.

“We had a great turn out for the (Sergio) Martinez fight in New York on Paddy’s Day in 2012, but to keep doing that a couple of times a year is not feasible. You want to box in big fights at home. When you look back at your career you want all your family and friends there to share that with you, those memories you keep with you for life.”
