Marco McCullough in line for big title fight

Nothing may have come from a seemingly agreed Josh Warrington fight, but Marco McCullough [16(10)-3(2)] is now in line for another big fight with an English star.

The British Boxing Board of Control have approved a British featherweight title fight between the popular Belfast man and current champion Ryan Walsh [21(10)-2(0)] in what would be a voluntary defence for the Norfolk boxer.

McCullough and his management team at MTK are currently in negotiations to finalise the fight, which would take place on Saturday May 6th at the Copper Box Arena in London should terms be agreed.

The proposed bout would hold great importance for Walsh as he is gunning for outright ownership of the belt having already successfully defended against Darren Traynor and Belfast’s James Tennyson.

The Englishman was narrowly defeated in his last fight, losing in a European title tilt against Dane Denis Ceylan. McCullough won the WBO Inter-Continental strap in his last contest, stopping Mexican Luis Lugo in the fourth at the Titanic Exhibition Centre.

Regardless of whether the fight is made or not, McCullough will still box on the big Boxnation card at the Waterfront Hall in Belfast next Saturday (February 18th) in an eight-rounder.
